My booking is bed & breakfast and marked "non-refundable". My stay is more than 30 days away — can I cancel under the Package Tour Contracts Regulation?
No. Under Law No. 6502 on Consumer Protection and the Package Tour Contracts Regulation, a package tour exists only where at least two of the following — transport, accommodation, and other tourism services not ancillary to them — are sold together for a single price. In a bed & breakfast booking, the breakfast is ancillary to the accommodation, so the booking does not qualify as a package tour. This means the terms written on your booking confirmation, voucher or contract apply. The Turkish Ministry of Trade also emphasises on its website that hotel-only bookings are not package tours: Information on package tour contracts (in Turkish)
I booked through a travel agency but the hotel hasn't confirmed my reservation. Can I still go to the hotel?
Contact the agency you booked with and request either a refund or, if possible, that your payment be held and alternative accommodation arranged. Under the Turkish Regulation on the Relations of Tourism Enterprises with the Ministry, with Each Other and with Their Customers, a reservation is not considered to exist until the hotel confirms it. Under the same regulation, the hotel has 3 days to confirm your reservation. Keep in mind that if you ask the agency to hold your payment and book you into a different property, a price difference may apply.
The hotel had confirmed my reservation but then changed its opening date. What should I do?
Consider the following: Did they offer an alternative date? Any alternative date must suit you. If they offer an alternative property, is it in an equivalent room category (sea view, bed types, board basis and similar amenities) at no extra cost? If you bought flights that now need changing, will they cover the change costs? Weigh the offer against these points — but if the new opening date doesn't work for you, you are entitled to a full refund in any event, because the hotel or your agency had confirmed your reservation for those exact dates.
I made an early booking, but prices dropped afterwards. What can I do?
If the early booking campaign amounted to a price guarantee, you can take the matter to the consumer arbitration committee on that basis. Be careful, though: if the campaign was framed not around paying less but around securing early availability at hotels in popular destinations, your application may be rejected. Our personal tip is to prefer sellers who explicitly refund the difference if prices later drop.
I've fallen ill and can't make my reservation. What should I do?
Obtain a medical report documenting your illness and send it to the property or your agency. Don't forget to state your request as well — either a stay on alternative dates or a refund.
My spouse and I had a booking, but they've fallen ill and we can't travel. All the booking details were on my spouse's side — I only know the dates and the hotel. What should I do?
Contact the agency, provide a doctor's report on your spouse's illness together with an official family registry extract proving you are married, and submit your cancellation request in writing with these documents attached.
I had a reservation, but the day before it I lost a first-degree relative. Can I get a refund?
Apply to your agency or the hotel with the death certificate.
I bought a bus ticket and they say I can only cancel up to 48 hours before departure. What can I do?
Under the Turkish Road Transport Regulation, carriers must allow cancellation up to 24 hours before departure and rescheduling up to 12 hours before. A 48-hour cancellation condition from a company selling road transport tickets in Türkiye violates the regulation.
We were going on holiday with my spouse/parents; sadly they passed away, and they had paid for the trip. As their heir, I want a refund. What should I do?
Start with a written request, obtain a certificate of inheritance, and attach the death certificate if you have it. If you are not the sole heir, you will either receive your own share of the amount, or all heirs can sign a single request together and designate one bank account.
The "cancel up to X hours before" right in cancellation-protection packages — is it actually a right everyone is entitled to?
No. Cancellation-protection packages are optional, insurance-backed add-ons that let you cancel a package tour or hotel booking without penalty up to a certain time before it starts — typically as long as you give notice up to 72 hours before the stay or tour begins. There is no provision in the legislation granting everyone a cancellation right up to that deadline.
