My visa was refused — can I get a refund for the flight ticket I'd already bought?
No. Unless you chose a refundable fare, a refund is not possible. A visa is a document issued by a country's authorities allowing you to enter for the purpose stated in it, and holding a valid visa for your destination is the passenger's responsibility. Since neither the airline nor the ticketing agency is responsible for whether your visa is granted, they have no obligation to refund you. That said, it is still worth contacting the airline or your agency at least 3–4 days before the flight to discuss rebooking to a different route or converting the ticket into an open ticket.
Airlines don't seem to follow the "lowest price of the last 30 days" discount rule. Can I complain to the Ministry?
Airline tickets are priced in real time (dynamic pricing). For that reason they are not treated as discounted sales subject to the 30-day rule in the discount guidelines. However, if the airline's advertising breaches other rules of the Regulation on Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices, a complaint may still succeed.
I've fallen ill and can't take my flight. What should I do?
Obtain a medical report documenting your illness and send it to the airline and your agency. Crucially, the report must explicitly state that you are "unfit to fly" — otherwise airlines will not accept refund requests.
My flight was diverted and landed at a different airport. What can I do?
If the airline is forced to change the final destination stated on your ticket and the flight ends at a different airport, the airline is obliged to get you to your ticketed destination as quickly as possible using available means of transport. Assert this right to the airline — it is guaranteed by Türkiye's SHY-Passenger Regulation (the air passenger rights regulation).
I was denied boarding because the flight was overbooked. What can I do?
If you checked in and arrived at the airport within the required times, you are entitled to the remedies provided by Türkiye's SHY-Passenger Regulation for denied boarding. Be careful, though: what you are owed varies case by case, depending on your check-in and arrival times and on whether you accept the offers the airline makes you. Airlines are legally allowed to sell more tickets than there are seats, and if not enough volunteers come forward, they may select which passengers are denied boarding.
Is the PNR number on a flight ticket personal to me?
PNR numbers belong to the reservation, not the person. After a certain period, PNR numbers used for completed journeys can be reassigned to other reservations. The period varies by airline practice but is generally around 9 months.
What is the maximum weight limit for a single suitcase on a plane?
Per IATA rules, most airlines state a maximum of 32 kg on their websites — a single piece of checked baggage cannot exceed 32 kg. Always check the specific baggage rules of your airline as well.
What is an interline booking?
An interline booking is one where different airlines are combined on a single ticket. For example, if you fly Istanbul–Dubai on Turkish Airlines and Dubai–Singapore on Air Arabia, and both segments are on one ticket, that is an interline booking.
What is a group PNR on flights?
When tickets are bought for 10 or more people (excluding infants), the whole group is assigned a single PNR. Under IATA rules, separate cancellation procedures and rules may apply to group PNRs.
How heavy can a single piece of baggage be on a flight?
Under IATA rules, a single piece of baggage may weigh at most 32 kg. But your ticket type and class also matter — the baggage allowance you purchased may be lower. And 32 kg is a ceiling: airlines are free to set lower limits.
What is a sequential ticket?
A sequential ticket arises with round trips bought on a single ticket, or itineraries like Antalya–London via Istanbul. Under IATA rules, all flight segments on a sequential ticket (each flight counts as one segment) must be used in order. So if you have a round trip and can't make the outbound flight, contact whoever sold you the ticket — agency or airline — and try to split the PNR; only cancel the outbound leg after the PNR has been split.
What is an open ticket?
An open ticket is one where the origin, destination and passenger details are fixed but the flight dates are left open. It must usually be used within 12 months of purchase.
I'm travelling with my pet and changed the time of my flight. Do I need to change my pet's booking too?
Yes. Even if the agency tells you otherwise, you must contact the airline and have the change made for your pet as well.
